LAST NIGHT - BABY BIRD DRAMA

A.M.

The baby birds are
looking quite grownup.
Fluffy and feathered,
being fed less often,
moving around in
the nest and becoming
alert to the sounds of
their parents when
they're around.

P.M. one of the chicks is out of the nest !

then, back in - i started to breathe again :0)

 settling in . . .

 but not for long . . .
a quick spruce up
and then
WHOOPS!   over the edge

by the time i'd got out from behind the viewfinder he's back,  looking a
    little indignant

obviously not going to settle back in though    'where will i go next?'
hmmm  what's up there?

wandering willie at the top, nestlings at the bottom

this was about 5.45,  i went inside to try and concentrate on other things, then went out again at 6.30 to find only the two babies in the nest

The two adults were buzzing around, in the trees and on the ground and in my anxious adoptive mother mode, i stayed still and watched anxiously for some movement somewhere, nothing - eventually i went back inside to start dinner.

then another check at sunset, to find the three of them snugly tucked into their nest together.   never a dull moment :0)

i've been doing some reading online, the fledglings leave the nest around about now and spend a lot of time on the ground learning to forage while their parents keep feeding them.  after about two weeks they should be able to look after themselves and probably new eggs will be laid. as soon as these hatch the parents chase off the littlies to start life on their own.

a happy end to the day*
