WALKS, LAGOON, RIVER

IT'S BEEN RELENTLESSLY HOT the past two weeks, rarely below 30, mostly mid 30's and high humidity.   So tiring day in and day out.

I'm concentrating on getting the house emptied a bit and making it look as good as it can, at the same time dealing with council, bank and estate agent about various paperwork.

Keeping myself going my early morning walks before the sun is high.  The lagoon is gorgeous, such regenerating to walk along the edge of all that water and life.

Back down south Gail, Susan and Anne and Den went to look at another house for me.  i spent a lot of energy thinking it looked really good but worrying about how i could make an offer without money ready at hand.  So it was a relief when they all said it was disappointing, unimpressive and surrounded by a horrible new suburb of small mean houses.  I can relax now and just keep on sorting my house.

The few brief rains and humidity, thunder and a night of spectacular sheet lightning brought fabulous sunrises and sunsets not to mention an invasion of frogs - INSIDE THE HOUSE!!  😱 Story below:

PICS FROM THE PAST WEEK - birds, sunrises and sunsets

A BIBLICAL EVENT - i walked through on a cool breezy morning to open the doors and windows after days of brief rain, huge humidity and tiring weather.  What greeted me was a mass of little tree frogs all over the windows INSIDE the house.  They die of dehydration really quickly, i find little mummified corpses regulary behind curtains, under furniture etc. so the next 3/4 hr was spent catching the slippery little suckers, putting them in a large vase and taking them out to the cool parts of the garden.  it takes some chasing and careful closing of hands, they'll squeeze through the tiniest crevice.   i must have thrown out at least 70! that was three days ago and they're still hopping around in the evenings in twos and threes, but fortunately no more mass visits.  I think it was reaction to the night of sheet lightning.  it literally lit up the sky like daylight for at least a couple of hours, probably more because i went to bed.

next morning no huge invasion but when i took one little frog out to the laundry sink to wet it before putting it in a pot plant, i was ambushed by a mass of frogs in the sink.   seeing me, they all sprang out in all directions - yes i shrieked!!

this little fella was the last to leave

unfortunate placement of pics,  this is a young grey butcher bird which i 'm sure would have feasted on some of the little frogs i rescued.

THIS IS THE REASON FOR MOVING

ETTA IS GROWING SO FAST already running and i've only seen her maybe 6 or 7 times in the past
18 mths. I want to be part of her life so although i'll have to wrench myself away from the river, hopefully i'll be living in walking distance from the sea and will resume morning open water swims. It'll be great to see sunny
on a regular basis again too

love this expression!   don't mess with etta 😁

TIME FOR AN UPDATE

I'M PREPARING THE HOUSE FOR SALE - so sad to think i'll be gone from here this year.  I can't imagine not waking up to be surrounded by sunrise, water and green.  But the thought of seeing sunny and etta on a regular basis and being a part of etta's life is all the compensation i'll need.

pics sent from japan, it's great to see the
little coat i bought for mara at the mildura
makers market is still going strong

I've been walking a lot more and Thegoa Lagoon is a favorite destination, the lagoon is full of water after a few dry years and the birdlife is just
amazing.  Swans, ibis, spoonbills, ducks, plovers, herons and i saw a new little bird which turned out to be a black fronted dotteril, so pretty. The walking is doing me good and i'm feeling fit enough to face the prospect of moving.

SUNSETS are as amazing as ever

It's always a surprise to walk out and see
a kangaroo looking at me :0)

two new arrivals, these red wattle birds have been
here for a week now, a bit bossy.  I'm hoping they
don't displace some smaller birds. they're comandeering
the birdbath that is the wrens' favorite.

UNBELIEVABLE sunsets this week, this one lasted half an hour

LEIGH HOBBS'S hands -
