watching the river

I'm watching the Wentworth Community facebook page every day as both the murray and darling rivers slowly rise.

My house is cut off from the road now as the whole front yard and driveway are underwater, and in the last few day's cadell street is closed off from the lock where the water has crossed the road and is heading for the cemetery.

november 20, my drive underwater, the wharf going under, water beginning to seep across cadell street

the levee at the golf course has broken and the golf course is under water.

it's peaking in a few days but there's predicted to be a second peak around christmas so who know where the levels will end.

November 27.  the wharf is disappearing, the water is up to captain john egge's chest, the full length statue of possum is also chest deep in water.

    community sandbagging day last sunday

In between flood watching, sunny and i spent a weekend painting my bedroom.  she stayed two nights so we got a full day's work in and had two nights together, we had a great day's painting and the room looks
great.  i love the green, it's very restful to wake up to.

a social week

I DROVE TO MELBOURNE for the first time since i've been here and it's a sign that i'm crawling out of the hole i've been in, not depressed or even flat but definitely looking after myself.  Sleeping in, staying close to home etc.   But now i've been swimming in the morning and now the trip to melbourne.  i'll try the ferry soon.

i visited sunny and stayed the night, lovely family time not doing much except watching etta go through her paces, from shy when i first arrived to crazy by the time we were ready for bed.  a funny little girl, go go go all day, independent and amusing herself constantly.

SMASHIN'N'BASHIN'

I'M GETTING READY to mozaic the top of a cute table that i got at the op shop.  i love the legs and with a multi coloured top it'll be a nice plant stand for the front porch

i probably frightened the neighbours with an afternoon of smashing plates in the backyard :o)

VISITORS :0)

DEAR FRIENDS  sandra and patrick rang unexpectedly to say they were spending the weekend in Pt Lonsdale, so we got together and had lunch at Terindah Estate yesterday.  forecast was rain all day but it was a beautiful day, sun and warmth and great company.   it let loose last night with thunder and lightning and this morning the front yard looks like a lake!

POINT LONSDALE THIS MORNING

THE SWIMMERS at pt lonsdale (the mermaids) are a really friendly group and i met some nice welcoming people including Ian, an 85 yo i chatted to in the water.

the traffic was held up on the way home by workers installing christmas lights in a very tall pine, it'll look lovely at night.

\

Before the swim at 7.30 i went to lake victoria again and got a couple of great shots that will become monoprints.  i'll get out to the studio today and do more work in setting it up. i need help with moving furniture soon

SWIMMING!! AT LAST!

THIS WEEK I GOT IN THE WATER WITH THE

SALTY BITCHES - FINALLY!

I swam twice during the week, at indented head and st. leonards. it was wonderful, my new ripcurl bathers are just right and the water was divine.  i've only been twice this week, yesterday i was at torquay for a dinner with the buddies and sisters so missed the morning swim but today i'm driving over to pt. lonsdale to swim.

PT LONSDALE - vicki and i went for a walk around lake victoria, the
young dragonflies were iridescent in the sun

pelicans at Swan Bay

DURING THE WEEK approaching rain created an amazing sunset that
i photographed over the small wetland reserve between indented head and
st leonards

the late afternoon sun lighting up melbourne over the bay

the blood moon happened the same day, i was out waiting for moonrise when i came across the sunset over the wetland, i must find the name of that small lake

IT'S BEEN COLD, IT'S BEEN HOT

A CRAZY WEEK OR SO . . . from 14/15deg  a week ago and relentless rain to this week in the high twenties.  it's cooled down a bit today which is good, i'll do some painting and picture hanging in the house.  sample pots to try out and some touching up to do.

Pics of sunny and etta's visit last week, we had a nice day in portarlington, some beach time, a walk along the pier, lunch at the pub and an op shop of course

LATEST PIC of cal and mara

A new bird, these pretty little fairy martins were on the

On the home front, the ventians have been installed in the two spare bedrooms, thanks to sunny

I'm knitting a lacy beret for denise, very trying, i have to
 watch every stitch

the mudlarks babies are grown up size, they've returned to my yard with parents visiting with food throughout the day.  they're starting to try out their adult voices,  pretty chirpy so far
