BRRR winter is here

IT'S  .,SUNNY TODAY but the air has turned chilly, i'll light the fire this afternoon.  just farewelled my fourth airbnbers for the past month, new zealanders travelling around for 3 months, heading for broken hill and beyond.

CAL and MARA look pretty happy in their groovy new school which looks likes it's been assembled from ikea flatpacks, very groovy and scandy.  It looks free and fun.

this was a wonderful film "the dancer" all about loie fuller and her amazing dance act in the folies berger, fin de siecle

jenny leach has put up a website selling helen's art on cards.  i love this image, i'm wondering if it's still around as a painting

GOLLY i haven't written anything here since may 29 - i'll backtrack thru my photos to remember what's been happening, nothing much, it's a quiet year

cal being cal, rene says he's right into tom cruise 'mission impossible' so i guess this is a 'tom' move

these pics were taken on a really cold day, last week we had a cold
snap and the fire was going night and day for a week.  the pelicans
were huddled on the shore, i felt like knitting them jumpers

a pic i took on the kitchen bench in the evening without a flash, i posted it and everyone responded with 'you have to make it a painting'

   maybe they can paint it :0)

It's winter but autumn is hanging in there,  fine by me

LAKE HAWTHORN on the way home this weekend

 SATURDAY was Worldwide Knit in Public day and we got together down at the Makers' hall - a group of fifteen knitted and swapped stories and patterns over lunch of hot vege soup i made, plus sausage rolls and slices  -  i must be living in a country town community.

last night was the most amazing sunset, bright pink in the east and
crazy rolling colour in the west

Had a nice walk on the island with sue this morning, then coffee
on the riverbank - after the cold week it's been lovely, today was
actually warm, no wind, perfect.  i've had an airbnb guest here who's been visiting salty lake sites and dancing in them, filming herself to make a video installation about salination.  she'll be bringing it back here to perform, it'll be interesting to see how she does it, i can't imagine.

WINTER ARRIVES

DEFINITELY INDOOR WEATHER right now - good for me to be concentrating on my grant applications.  yesterday was spent running around organising a new hot water service. This morning ... steaming hot water, what a treat.   lots of money spent though, money i don't have right now :0(
Nothing much happening - i'm better after that rotten lurgy but still a bit indoorsy.  i'll have to crank myself into gear and start walking again.

LAST SUNDAY  we had a working bee down
at the Makers building to get the garden into
some shape.  richard's been working hard on the
bare bones and they worked out a watering
system.  I spent a pleasant four hours planting a
whole lot of herb and plant cuttings i've been
growing.  a good day's work

we had company all day, magpies, a butcher bird and two willy wagtails came amazingly close to get the little flying red ants
that were disturbed out of the soil

i planted geraniums, irises, oregano and rosemary and a bunch of stripey strappy plants that a neighbour brought over when she saw us working.

THE AUTUMN COLOUR is in full swing but from the sounds of the wind outside i think the leaves will be gone in a few days

still working on my grant application, it's due this week - trying    out character sketches for romeo & juliet
