NEARLY CHRISTMAS!!

WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE?? already december 23, i've been here in Indented Head for 6 months. I've been obsessing over two things since the last post, watching the flooding in Wentworth and designing my bathroom after a visit from Trent the builder whose gone away to do me a quote.

my house is in the top left corner under the trees.  it should be above water like the others and the river is now beginning to recede. the peak of the darling is still coming though

etta's first tram ride, obviously a big hit

i have been able to hear this family of galahs in the next door tree for weeks, noisily feeding.  then they appeared on the powerlines right outside the front door and were fed and preened for quite a while.  one adult and three cute babies

the garden is flourishing and i'm slowly getting it tidied up.

I've been swimming in the mornings with the salty bitches this week. first day really choppy, second day quite wavy and today crystal clear and calm and misty.  each day was great for swimming, and today was christmas dress up day, which i didn't know :0(

when i first looked through the lens for this shot of melbourne i though i had spots on the lens then realised there were hot air balloons over the city.  one apparently landed on the side of the road, stopping traffic :0)

A WONDERFUL WEEKEND

SPENT THE LAST WEEKEND of november at Deans Marsh with Merrin and Terry. The house is on a green sweeping hill with a gigantic oak tree behind the house.  set in about two acres of lush grass there are views down across a dam and scattered fruit trees to native landscape.  you can see to the horizon in two directions and i found it so restful to spend time there.  merrin and terry are great company and we had fabulous warm weather.  merrin and i visited qdos gallery and spent the afternoon on the beach, two swims and lots of sun - a novelty this summer when we've had nothing but rain and wind and low temperatures.  bbqs on the balcony each night, lovely :0)

enjoying a sparkling under lovely japanese maples at qdos gallery

THIS WEEKEND my sunraysia buddy di and i flew to canberra to see the cressida campbell exhibition, five big rooms of exquisite work, a truly wonderful show.  next day we fitted in the portrait gallery and PM portraits at Parliament House before flying home.  I had two lovely nights with sunny and luke and etta in melbourne on the way up and back.

i loved this imposing portrait of helen rubinstein
by graham sutherland

portrait by adelaide perry, a name i don't know. caption

said she was highly regarded in her time so i'm disappointed
she's not better known now.  i think this is a lovely work

we had wonderful accommodation at the canberra hyatt thanks to di, luxurious rooms and beautiful setting in a green leafy city block

thanks to di also for re-introducing me to
affogato - i'd forgotten they existed!

BEDROOM FINISHED

Another room crossed off the list  :0)

I used the leftover pale lime trim colour to paint all the horrible floral tiles in shades of light brown that were in the laundry and toilet.   a temporary fix but a relief for the eyes!!

watching the river

I'm watching the Wentworth Community facebook page every day as both the murray and darling rivers slowly rise.

My house is cut off from the road now as the whole front yard and driveway are underwater, and in the last few day's cadell street is closed off from the lock where the water has crossed the road and is heading for the cemetery.

november 20, my drive underwater, the wharf going under, water beginning to seep across cadell street

the levee at the golf course has broken and the golf course is under water.

it's peaking in a few days but there's predicted to be a second peak around christmas so who know where the levels will end.

November 27.  the wharf is disappearing, the water is up to captain john egge's chest, the full length statue of possum is also chest deep in water.

    community sandbagging day last sunday

In between flood watching, sunny and i spent a weekend painting my bedroom.  she stayed two nights so we got a full day's work in and had two nights together, we had a great day's painting and the room looks
great.  i love the green, it's very restful to wake up to.
